In 1825, Reverend Henry McKeagney, a young
Irish priest, became the first resident priest of the
newly formed 10th parish of Sydney. Shortly after
his appointment, Margaret Wilson, wife of Captain
Wilson, agreed to give the chapel and graveyard to
Father McKeagney. After McKeagney took possession
of the land he requested money from Bishop Plessis to
aid construction of a new stone building.
