The Maronites are a Catholic order concentrated in Lebanon but with a presence in neighbouring Syria, Palestine, Israel and Cyprus. Named for the Syriac Christian Saint Maron, who died in the fifth century, the Maronites are currently one of the primary religious groups in Lebanon.
